REAL MEN DO YOGA
It’s a myth that yoga is a female dominated practice
Scroll through Instagram on any given day and you’re likely to see lots of stereotypical photos of pretty girls posing in cool yoga pants – and that’s great, bringing awareness to the practice is good! But it’s also important to note yoga is for absolutely everyone, and this includes men. In fact, in the very beginning in India, classic yoga was only practiced by men for centuries. Later on, the teachers responsible for introducing yoga to the western world were primarily men.
It’s just a modern myth that yoga is a female dominated practice – and we’re happy to say that here at Hot Yoga Ibiza, our classes are filled with both male and female students. We do know from experience, however, that some men may feel a little trepidation about starting a yoga practice. Maybe you think you’re not flexible enough, perhaps you see yoga as not physical enough, or it could just be that you think it’s too spiritual or hippie, or maybe even as too feminine for you – we’re here to tell you, none of those reasons should stop you from practicing!
We welcome male students of all levels of flexibility, fitness and strength – if you can’t touch your toes, it doesn’t matter! Our classes are known to be physically challenging – we ask you to just do what you can. We do not promote or preach any kind of spirituality – the connection you will ultimately feel to yourself, the universe or a higher power (however you choose to see it) is something that ultimately comes from within. And our classes are definitely not ‘girly’ – you will sweat, sweat, and then sweat some more!
Ask any of our male students, or speak to our experienced founder Sebastien Carincotte, and they’ll tell you, yoga is a powerful tool that has become an essential part of their lives. Whether practiced as a complementary physical exercise to your sports, as a way to increase strength, tone muscle and improve flexibility, or as a dedicated practice that brings balance to your body and mind, yoga benefits men in so many different ways. Reducing back pain, lowering your heart rate and blood pressure, relieving stress, anxiety and depression, helping with insomnia, increasing concentration and motivation, and improving confidence are just some of the wonderful side effects to the practice.
If you’re unsure about starting a new yoga practice – give us a call on +34 971 19 42 41, or send us an email to info@hotyogaibiza.com. Sebastien will be happy to talk you through the benefits of practicing with us, in addition to letting you know what to expect in class. We host classes with, and without heat, and if you’ve never tried yoga before, we promise you – you will be happily surprised with the way you feel after your first experience.
Don’t put it off any longer – the best time to start your new practice is now. You don’t need any fancy equipment, clothes or a certain level of experience – just bring yourself and let us teach you the rest. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
